Hector has always been envious and competitive with his cousin Sucre, who ends up winning the eye of beautiful Marisol.  In Hector's jealousy, he finds out about Sucre's plan to finance purchasing a wedding ring by robbing a liquor store, and in turn calls the police to the scene of the crime on one fateful night, sending his own cousin Sucre to prison for a very long time.
